Spent $40 on a Hakko FX-888D for camera work and it paid for itself on one job
I was using a cheap $12 iron for years and kept cooking flex cables on point and shoots, always blamed my shaky hands. Bought the Hakko FX-888D about 8 months ago and the temp control alone cut my reflow mistakes way down, did a full CCD ribbon swap on a Canon G7X last Tuesday with zero lifted pads. If you do a lot of tiny board work, the extra $30 over a no name station is worth it, but if you only solder once a month stick with what you have. What iron is everyone else running for ribbon cable jobs?
