Spent 3 hours chasing a light leak that was actually a sticky shutter blade

Couldn't figure out why my Nikon FM had a thin streak on every frame until I realized the second curtain was hanging up by maybe 5 milliseconds. Has anyone else spent way too long diagnosing something that simple?

Felt that. Lube the curtain pivot on my F2 fixed it instantly.

Yeah did that on my old car's tailgate hinge and it worked like magic for months. Then the weather got cold and it started squeaking again, so I tried some silicone spray this time around. Honestly I think people sleep on how much a little bit of maintenance can save you from replacing whole parts down the line. Like why would you bother with a new assembly if just a little squirt of some spray can get you years more use out of it. My buddy always laughs at me for being too cheap to junk things but I've saved a ton of cash just by lubing stuff up when it starts getting noisy.
