PSA: Stop using generic lens cleaner on old coated glass

I had a client bring in a 1970s Pentax with haze, and the previous shop used a standard alcohol spray that started eating the coating. It left a permanent cloudy patch right in the center. What's your go-to safe cleaner for vintage single-layer coatings?

Ugh, learned that one the hard way too. I just use a drop of dish soap and warm water now, works like a charm.

Most dish soaps have degreasers in them that work way better than any harsh cleaner, so you're definitely on the right track. Just make sure you dilute it a lot, like a single drop in a full spray bottle of warm water, or you'll end up with a slippery residue. Learned that one from a bottle of dish soap I squeezed too hard, haha.

Oh man, why do we always have to learn these things by making a huge mess first? I once used something way too strong and basically created a sticky science project on my counter. Dish soap is a total lifesaver for sure. It's funny how the simple fix is usually the best one.
