Just realized my mentor was right about using a $15 loupe for shutter curtain inspection
He said, 'Your eyes will lie before that glass does,' and after missing a tiny tear on a Nikon FE2 that cost me a repair redo, I finally get it, so what's one piece of simple gear you all swear by?

Gotta ask, is a tiny tear on a shutter curtain really that big of a deal? Most of those old cameras are still ticking along with little flaws. How many shots did you actually lose before you noticed it? Feels like we chase perfection in these old tools when good enough is usually right there.

Saw a guy on a forum who lost half a roll to a pinhole he couldn't even see without a flashlight.

Yeah but that's the thing... we get so caught up in the 'perfection' trap with these old cameras that we miss the bigger picture. It's like everywhere else in life really - we fixate on one tiny flaw while ignoring the fact that the whole system still works fine. I've seen people throw away perfectly good vintage lenses because of a little dust that probably doesn't even show up in photos. Same with cars, houses, relationships... we chase this idea of flawless when the real magic is in the character and the quirks. Sometimes a pinhole or a light leak just adds to the story of the thing.
