Hot take: I used to think gel caps on old Contax shutters were fine, but after seeing six of them turn into sticky goo last week, I switched to titanium blades.
The consistency is way better and I don't have to worry about a customer's camera coming back in three years with the shutter stuck open.

Used to think the gel caps were part of the charm, but after cleaning that same sticky mess off a lens group I'm fully on team titanium now.

Maybe it's not really that big a deal, @hugo50; a little isopropyl and a Q-tip and you're good to go. I've cleaned worse off my camera gear tbh.

That isopropyl trick only gets you so far though, doesn't it? What about the stuff that gets trapped under the edge of the gel cap and dries into a crust that Q-tips can't reach? Seems like the real test is whether you can clean it without leaving any residue behind.
