Guy brought me a Pentax last Tuesday and I told him the shutter was toast. It wasn't.
Spent 20 minutes on the phone with him before he even came in, swearing the mirror was sticking on his K1000, and I quoted him $85 for a full teardown. Turned out the mirror bumper foam had turned to goo and was grabbing the mirror for a split second, $4 part and 15 minutes of cleaning. How many of you have almost cost yourself a customer by quoting the worst case before you even had the camera in your hands?
