Gear oil on a stuck helicoid worked where my heat gun failed

Had a 70s Vivitar zoom lens with a focus ring frozen solid. Tried the usual heat gun and rubber strap trick for about an hour, nothing. Then I remembered reading about letting penetrating oil wick into the threads overnight. Dripped a little 3-in-1 around the base and set it lens-down in a cup. Next morning it turned with just finger pressure. Flushed it out with isopropyl after and regreased properly. Anyone else found a weird solvent that beats heat on stubborn cemented threads?
