Fixed a sticky shutter on a 1970s Pentax with nothing but lighter fluid
I had this Spotmatic that would hang up at slow speeds, like 1/15 and below. Figured it needed a full CLA but I didn't want to spend $150 on a camera worth maybe $80. Tried a tiny drop of Ronsonol on the slow speed escapement gear pivot, just let it wick in. Worked perfectly after two dry fires. Has anyone else had luck with this trick or am I just asking for trouble down the road?

Lighter fluid leaves a residue that gums things up eventually.

Nah, I gotta push back here. Lighter fluid evaporates almost completely if you give it a second. The real gunk comes from using cheap torch lighters with dirty butane, not lighter fluid. @troyjackson are you leaving it pooled up or something?
