Can we talk about the old parts catalogs we used to have to flip through?
Last week, a guy brought in a Pentax K1000 with a sticky shutter, and I realized I hadn't physically opened my 1992 printed service manual for that model since about 3 years ago when I finally scanned the whole thing into my computer (which, honestly, is way easier to search).

Honestly, is scanning old manuals even worth the effort? That stuff is online now.

It's part of a bigger problem where we only trust digital stuff. Servers fail or companies go under, and then that info is just gone forever. Keeping a physical backup is the only real safety net.

lol yeah but the thing is a lot of those online scans are terrible quality or missing pages. i recently tracked down a 1987 printer manual for a vintage shop and the pdf had half the wiring diagram cut off, the physical copy was way crisper. plus there's some weird old stuff that just never made it online because nobody cared enough to scan it.
