Used to untwist cat5 pairs with my fingers until a senior tech showed me a pair of snips with a built-in stripper

Started stripping way too much jacket off on a job in Phoenix last summer and the guy literally took my work apart and showed me how to do it right, now I get perfect terminations every time has anyone else had a mentor save them from bad habits?

Had an old timer in Dallas show me the same trick after he saw me stripping with my teeth on a hot roof... that was a rough day. He handed me his Klein strippers and made me practice on scrap cable for 20 minutes until my fingers bled. Now I never pull more than an inch of jacket and my punchdowns are rock solid every time.

Honestly, I don't know if it's that deep. Stripping a bit too much jacket is annoying but I've seen way worse terminations that still pass a test. Ngl, having a mentor help is cool and all but people act like it's brain surgery or something.
