That time I found a stud with a butter knife in a pinch last Tuesday in an old house near downtown

Desperate move when my stud finder died halfway through hanging a TV mount but actually worked surprisingly well - has anyone else used random tools on the job out of necessity?

Actually, butter knives can sometimes mess with the electromagnetic field readings if the stud finder is the magnetic kind... but yeah, I've used a skinny screwdriver to poke for studs before when my finder went dead. Worked fine for finding the edges.

Respectfully, butter knives are usually too dull and flimsy to actually feel the stud edge. A screwdriver gives you way more feedback when you hit the drywall and tap the wood. Never had a stud finder last long enough to worry about EM fields, just tap and poke.
