Spent 45 minutes hunting a bad splice that turned out to be right in front of my face

I was troubleshooting a drop with no signal on a house in Phoenix and kept checking the tap and ground block. Turns out the previous guy had left a splitter buried in the attic insulation that was half connected.

Buried splitters in attics are the absolute worst, especially when they're half-crimped and hiding under insulation where you'd never think to look.

@sethc12 man that's the worst kind of find. Was it at least connected properly or did you have to pull all the insulation out just to see what was going on? I've been in attics where you think you've checked every corner and then boom there's a splitter buried under six inches of blown-in stuff that's been there since the 90s. Half-crimped too, that's just asking for trouble with signal drop or corrosion down the line. How long did it take you to even realize it was there? Sometimes those things can be hidden for years before someone actually has to trace the cable back.
