Hit 500 same-day installs last week and it got me thinking

I crossed 500 same-day cable installs last Thursday, which is a weird milestone to track but I started counting back in 2019. It matters because my manager always says same-day is impossible on older homes with weird wiring (like, pre-2000 stuff). But I've been proving him wrong on like 8 out of 10 of those jobs. Has anyone else noticed that older houses actually go faster once you know where to look for the old coax runs?

My old record was a 1977 house with knob and tube that'd been partially updated, that job took me 4 hours and 15 minutes but I got it done. I gotta ask though - on those pre-2000 homes you're talking about, are you finding the old runs usually go to a central splitter in the basement or are people hiding them in crazy spots like behind built-in shelving? Because I've ran into both and the ones in the basements are way faster but the built-in ones make me want to tear my hair out. It sounds like you're onto something with knowing where to look, but I'm curious if there's a specific spot you check first every time.

Funny you mention built-ins, that's why I started checking attic access points first on any house older than 2000. Folks love stashing the junction box right where the attic ladder folds up, so you don't see it until you're halfway up with a flashlight.
