Customer ripped me for messy wall plates, now I use a punchdown tool every time
Last month a customer in Austin pointed at my wall plates and said 'you call that clean work?' right in front of their landlord. I was rushing and just used the screwdriver to push the coax in. Now I always carry a proper punchdown tool for the ethernet jacks and spend an extra 2 minutes making sure the cables sit flush inside. Has anyone else had a customer call you out on small stuff that actually made you better?

Nah, a clean plate shows pride in the work. That extra two minutes saves you from getting called out again.

Nah, I gotta disagree hard here! You're spending extra time on something 99% of people never even notice. Unless that landlord was holding a magnifying glass to your wall, you're probably overthinking it. I've been doing this 6 years and I've had maybe two customers look at plates period. They care if the internet works and if the price is right. That Austin guy was just having a bad day or trying to get a discount.
