A customer asked why I didn't use compression fittings on his new build

He pointed out that my twist-on connectors would fail in a few years, so now I use compression fittings on every residential job even though they cost 50 cents more per connection.

@dakota_rivera hang on - you're saying twist-ons last decades but you mentioned taping them, so what kind of tape are you using that makes that much difference?

I'm gonna push back on this one, take it with a grain of salt. In my experience compression fittings are overkill for most residential jobs, especially if the customer isn't paying for the upgrade. Twist-on connectors can last decades if you tape them right and pick a quality brand. Plus compression fittings can be a pain to troubleshoot if something goes wrong down the line, like if a wire gets nicked or the screw loosens up from temperature changes. I've seen more failed compression job failures than twist-on failures over my 15 years, honestly. Your mileage may vary but I'd rather save the customer some money and use what's worked fine for years.
