Cats are just the final boss of anything sticky, same as toddlers or a hot car in July. You get a good thing going and then some force of nature you didn't plan for just wrecks it in minutes. It's the same reason phone mounts and adhesive hooks all get great reviews and then someone's dog or a humid bathroom turns them into a floor decoration. Nothing sticks forever, it just hasn't met the thing that'll peel it off yet.
