Bought a 12-pack of velcro strips and my desk looks worse than before

Spent Sunday morning rerouting my PC tower cables behind the shelf in my basement office, and now the monitor wire hangs in a loop that catches my knee every time I stand up, so has anyone else found that those cheap spiral wraps only make a mess look neater from one angle and completely chaotic from the other?
