350 bucks for a cable snake and I just needed a coat hanger
I saw a guy at a job site in Austin pull out this fancy cable snake that cost him 350 dollars at some pro supply place. Meanwhile I had an old wire coat hanger in my truck that did the same thing through a 20 foot wall cavity in under 2 minutes. It got me wondering how much money people drop on tools that a bent piece of metal can replace. I checked a local electrical forum thread from 2019 and someone listed like 15 everyday cable routing jobs that a hanger handles fine. Are we all just paying for the label or have you found a cheap hack that beats a specialized tool? What's the dumbest thing you've used to fish a cable that actually worked?
