Why does everyone keep undermounting drawer slides wrong?

I see guys at the shop all the time mounting undermount slides straight to the bottom of the drawer box without any gap for the locking mechanism. Did 30 drawers for a kitchen last week and had to redo 12 because the previous guy just screwed them flush. The slides need that 1/16 gap or they bind up and the drawer won't close smooth. Has anyone else run into this with the Blum slides specifically?

Read somewhere that Blum actually puts the gap specs right in the manual but nobody bothers to check. They even sell those little plastic spacers for it.

Yeah those plastic spacers are a lifesaver honestly. I used a stack of playing cards once to get the gaps right before I knew about them, ended up way more accurate than I thought it would be.
