Unpopular opinion: my fancy new Blumotion soft-close hinge failed after 6 months
I installed a set of Blumotion hinges on a kitchen job in Austin back in March and one of them just stopped closing smoothly last week. The hydraulic dampener leaked oil all over the cabinet door, and I had to replace the whole hinge myself. Has anyone else had a brand new soft-close mechanism give out this fast, or did I just get a bad batch?

Got a similar thing happen with a set of drawer slides last year. Brand new Blum setup, the soft close gave out on the third drawer and I found a little puddle of oil on the floor. Felt like I paid extra for a leaky pen. @torres.drew, your cabinet pull story makes me feel better about my luck with these things. I guess being "soft close" just means it takes longer to fail.

Man, that's rough... sounds like my luck with anything that promises to be "high end". Probably just a bad batch though, those Blums usually last a good while. I remember once I put a whole set of cabinet pulls on and one stripped out before I even got the door closed right... felt like a real genius.

Those Blum soft-close hinges are usually rock solid, but I've noticed the 110 degree ones (the standard ones, you know) have a weird issue where the plastic clip on the backside cracks if you torque the screw too hard. @torres.drew, your cabinet pull story is exactly the kind of thing that makes me double-check everything three times before I put a tool down. I stripped the head on a brand new Kreg jig screw once, just from driving it in at a slight angle. Felt pretty dumb standing there staring at a twisted piece of metal.
