The $350 spiral bit I wrecked in 20 minutes on a laminate job

Bought a nice Amana spiral bit for a big kitchen install in Denver, and the customer had regular laminate countertops that someone glued with contact cement that was still tacky in spots. It gummed up and snapped on the second pass, so now I'm back to using a cheap straight bit with masking tape over the cut line, anyone else had luck with anything besides tape on laminate?

Sprayed WD-40 on the line, ran slow, never snapped. Cheap fix, worked fine.
