Tbh, I tried using a 1/8" roundover bit on some maple drawer fronts last week and the tearout was way worse than I expected.

Nah, dull bit or wrong speed is almost always the real problem with maple.

Honestly, I've had the opposite happen with maple. A sharp 1/8" bit and a really light final pass usually gives me a clean edge. Maybe it was a feed rate thing? Going too slow can sometimes cause more tearout than a steady, confident push.
