Saw the most amazing built-in at a hotel in Portland last week
I was staying at this old hotel downtown, the one by the river. In the lobby, they have this huge wall of bookshelves with a little bar area built right into the middle of it. At first I just thought it was cool, but then I got up close. The way they matched the grain on the cabinet doors to the shelves around it was perfect. It wasn't just a box stuck in a hole, the whole thing flowed together like one piece. The cabinet doors even had the same little rounded edge detail as the shelf trim. It made me realize I sometimes just build the cabinet and fit it in, but this was about building the whole wall as one idea. Has anyone else done a project where the cabinet had to disappear into the architecture like that?

What kind of wood was it? That level of grain matching must have taken so much planning, like they picked the boards for the cabinet right from the same stack as the shelves.

That's some next-level planning, @uma_lopez.
