Maple is overrated for kitchen cabinets

I read a study from the USDA Forest Service that said hickory has better impact resistance and moisture stability than maple in kitchen use. Has anyone else switched to hickory after looking at the actual data?

Nah dude, maple's classic for a reason. Hickory grain is way too busy for me.

My buddy Mark redid his kitchen last year with hickory cabinets. Six months later he was sanding them down and restaining because the grain made the whole room look like a busy highway map. He said every time he walked in there his eyes didn't know where to land. Maple is boring in the best way, lets the actual design of the room breathe.
