I thought a $60 dial caliper was overkill for cabinet work until my $12 one lied about a 3/8 dado
Spent $60 on a Mitutoyo dial caliper after my cheap one said a shelf was dead on and it came up a full 1/32 proud on the face frame, and now I check every stopped dado and hinge cup with it, so what are you guys using to trust a measurement twice?
That "trust a measurement twice" thing is real, I've started zeroing my dial on the actual stock thickness first so any drift shows up right away. Cheap calipers hate being zeroed on wood instead of the jaws closed, which is probably half of why yours lied.
