Finally figured out why my drawer boxes kept splitting at the joints

Turns out I was using too much glue. A guy at the local shop in Nashville told me to only run a thin bead down the center of the dovetail, not fill the whole socket. Has anyone else had success switching to a lighter glue application?

leaving gaps at the pins" - thats exactly why I back you up on this one.

I mean, I'm gonna push back on that a little bit. I've been building drawers for a few years now and I actually load up the dovetail sockets pretty heavy, but I wipe off the squeeze out right away before it skins over. If you're only running a thin bead down the center, you're leaving gaps at the pins which can let the joint wiggle loose over time, especially in a humid shop. Idk, maybe it's just me but I'd rather have a mess to clean up than a joint that fails later. Too little glue can be just as risky as too much in my experience, you know?
