Counted 47 different types of wood in my shop yesterday and it made me stop and think.

Wow, my buddy had a similar collection and his wife finally made him sell most of it. He realized he was just keeping scraps for projects he'd never start. It was a real wake-up call for him.

Hoarding is a strong word, though. There's a difference between having a bunch of unfinished projects and actually not being able to let anything go because you'll need it someday. Your buddy's story sounds more like someone who finally got a reality check on what they realistically had time for. I've seen guys with a whole garage full of random lumber and old hardware that they swear they're going to use, but it just sits there for years. That's more of a clutter problem than a true hoarding situation. Still, good on him for facing it and making a change.
