Always thought plain sawn was fine until I tried quartersawn for a bookshelf

I built a big oak bookshelf last spring. Used plain sawn like always. Looked great for about 4 months, then the shelves started cupping pretty bad. Had to rip them all out and start over. This time I spent the extra money on quartersawn white oak. Cut about $80 more for the project but the thing has been sitting in my shop since August with no warping or cupping at all. Has anyone else had better luck with quartersawn for long spans or is it just me?

Let the wood dry right or the grain still cups on plain sawn.

Plain sawn's fine if you let the wood dry right and orient the grain.
