Warning: the cheapest inspection report might cost you $12,000 later

My husband and I bought our first place in Phoenix 3 years ago. We went with the inspector our realtor recommended because he was $250 cheaper than the other guy we got a quote from. Big mistake. Last week the shower pan finally gave out and the water damage spread into the hallway. The report never mentioned the slope was off or that the drain pipe had a visible patch job. A neighbor who used the pricier inspector told me theirs flagged both issues on a similar unit two blocks away. Now I'm looking at a full bathroom redo and my floors are ruined. Does anyone else think cheap inspections are a false economy, or do I just have bad luck?
