The one weird trick that got my offer accepted in a bidding war
I kept losing houses in my area (Denver, June 2023) because cash buyers kept swooping in. So I wrote a personal letter to the seller telling them I grew up three blocks away and wanted to raise my kids in the same neighborhood. They picked my offer over a higher one because the grandma selling the house had lived there 40 years and liked the story. Has anyone else tried the feel-good letter angle?

Did you feel weird writing that letter or did it come naturally?

Oh man, that's a great question. I had a similar moment once when I had to write a note to my neighbor about their dog getting into my trash cans again. I sat there staring at the paper for like 20 minutes trying to figure out if I sounded too angry or not angry enough. Ended up writing it like three times before I just gave up and taped a sticky note saying "please close the lid tighter" on their door. So no idea if it came naturally but I definitely felt weird about it.
