Talked to my neighbor about his $12k sewer line repair and now I'm terrified of old houses.

Our sewer line replacement last year cost fifteen thousand.

That number from @nancys90 makes my plumbing bill look like a joke. I had a pipe under the kitchen sink start leaking last month and just that little fix was almost eight hundred bucks. Makes you wonder what's holding the whole house together sometimes.

Think about what's actually in those old pipes though, lol. Cast iron and clay can last a hundred years if they haven't been messed with, it's the "upgrades" from the 70s and 80s that are rotting out now. Half the horror stories I hear are from people whose houses had "modern" PVC or orangeburg put in back then, not the original stuff.
