Shoutout to that old Victorian in my neighborhood that sold for $525k last week

I walked by the place after they closed and got to thinking about how my parents bought their first house in this same town for $30,000 back in 1982, and it just hit me different.

My buddy bought a similar place three blocks over in 2019 for $380k and now the tax assessor just hit him with a reassessment that's almost double what he paid. That generation your parents had it made with those prices though... my grandfather bought the house I grew up in for like $12,000 in the 60s and sold it for over half a million just before the market crashed in 2008. Makes you wonder what these new homeowners are gonna be telling their kids in another 40 years... probably complaining about a million dollar fixer-upper.

The grandfather thing gets me every time. My own grandpa bought a whole farm back in the 50s for what I spend on groceries in a year now. Sold it in the 90s and bought a condo outright with the cash. Kids today will probably be telling stories about how their parents paid six figures for a studio apartment with no windows. I swear they'll be talking about "the good old days" when a starter home was only half a million. Crazy how the numbers just keep climbing but the paychecks don't keep up.
