Realtor told me I should skip the home inspection to save $500. I still went through with it.
I was looking at a house in Austin last spring, and the seller's agent was really pushing me to waive the inspection to make my offer stronger. He said the house was built in 2018 and everything was practically new, so why waste the money? But I stuck to my gut and paid $450 for a full inspection anyway. Turned out there was a hidden leak under the slab foundation that would've cost like $8,000 to fix. The inspector showed me the moisture readings and the cracked pipe right there on the report. Now I'm wondering if other people have had similar pressure to skip inspections, or if I just got lucky with a paranoid attitude? What do you all think - is it ever wise to skip that step in a hot market?

My cousin bought a house in Phoenix last year without an inspection and found a family of raccoons living in the attic two weeks later.

Figure raccoons are usually a whole family plus a few extra, not just one.
