Question about getting a mortgage from a big bank vs a local credit union
Honestly, I compared a big national bank and a local credit union in Charlotte for my mortgage. The credit union's rate was a quarter point lower and they didn't charge an origination fee, which saved me over $3,000 upfront. The loan officer there actually answered her phone and explained every step. Has anyone else found a local lender to be way easier to deal with?

Yeah, that part about the loan officer actually answering the phone is huge. It makes the whole stressful process feel way more manageable when you can actually talk to a human.

But is it REALLY that big a deal? People get loans all the time without ever talking to someone.
