PSA: my lender waived a $585 fee after one email, just ask for a rate re-lock in writing
Rates dropped about .4% between my offer in March and closing, and I almost ate the extra cost because I figured a locked rate was locked. I sent a short email asking them to re-lock at the lower number and they did it same day, has anyone else gotten this to work or did I just get lucky?
We did this too, back in 2020 when rates fell after we locked, and our lender matched the lower one without much pushback. The trick is you have to be polite and put it in writing, plus mention you're thinking about shopping around if they can't help. I mean it doesn't always work but it costs nothing to ask.
