Actually cat food works but peanut butter is way better for live traps. The smell carries farther and they really have to work at it, keeps them in there longer. Used it last week for a raccoon that kept getting into my trash.

Swear to god if I ever find a raccoon working out in my trash I'm just gonna leave him a job application and call it a day... they're getting way too smart with this stuff. But seriously, peanut butter in a live trap sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. You're gonna end up with one very pissed off raccoon covered in peanut butter and you'll have to explain that to the game warden. Good luck getting that stuff off a raccoon's fur too, that's a whole other level of mess.
