My inspector missed a $4,000 plumbing issue in the crawlspace
Found standing water under the house three days after closing in Portland, turns out the main drain was cracked. Anyone else have an inspector miss something big and have to eat the repair cost?

That happened to me last year with a roof leak that their report totally missed. I ended up eating $2,800 to fix it. What worked was calling my real estate agent and having her go to bat with the seller's agent, turns out the seller knew about it and didn't disclose, so we split the cost as a goodwill thing. Not a guarantee, but worth trying if you think the seller might have known about the drain.

It's funny how this kind of thing happens all the time, isn't it? People just assume what they pay for is always good, but inspections and estimates are just another business where corners get cut. You pay for a professional opinion and end up finding out the hard way that nobody looked close enough. The real lesson here for anyone is that you can't just trust a single report, you have to push back and ask questions when something doesn't add up. Because if you don't, you're the one left holding the bag and nobody else cares.
