My inspection guy missed a cracked sewer line and now I'm out $4,200 in Austin
We closed on this 1978 ranch house in Austin 3 weeks ago and the very first night the downstairs toilet started backing up into the tub. The inspector I paid $450 said the plumbing was "functional" but never ran a camera down the main line, which I didn't even know was a thing to ask for back then. Turns out the cast iron pipe was cracked in two spots and the whole run from the house to the street had to get dug up and replaced. I called the inspector and he basically said his report only covers what's visible, so I'm just eating the $4,200. Did any of you pay extra for a sewer scope, and is it normal that nobody tells you about this stuff the first time?
