My dad told me to skip the sewer scope inspection to save $300

He said it was a waste because the house was only 15 years old. We closed on the place in Tacoma last fall. Fast forward to this spring, and we had a massive backup. The plumber found a crushed pipe under the driveway. The repair bill was over $5k. I should have listened to my agent, not my cheap dad. Anyone else get burned by skipping an inspection they were told was optional?

My dad gave me the same advice on my first place. A sewer scope found tree roots starting to block the line. That $300 saved me from a way bigger mess down the road. Sometimes the optional stuff is the most important.

My cheap uncle cost me ten grand on a new build.

Wait, did your dad pay for the repair? Because that's the real lesson here, you can't take financial advice from someone who won't cover the cost if they're wrong. An optional inspection is just insurance against huge surprises.
