Home inspector missed a big leak in the crawlspace

Bought a house in Portland last spring and found out two months later there was a hidden pipe leak under the floor. The inspector just poked his head in and called it dry, but we found mold and rotted subfloor after a weird smell showed up. Cost me $3,200 to fix it all, and I had to threaten small claims court to get $500 back from the inspector. Anyone else had a home inspector gloss over something obvious?

Wait, are you saying the inspector actually crawled under there or just stuck their head in? I used to be the type who thought home inspectors were basically a waste of money but always worth it for peace of mind. After my buddy's inspector missed a roof leak that ended up costing him like 8 grand, I flipped hard. Now I think half of them are just rushing through houses to get to the next job. It's wild that you had to threaten court just to get $500 back when the damage was way worse than that.
