Hated paying for a home inspection until a pipe burst saved my offer
Everyone in my realtor circles told me to skip the home inspection on a tight timeline. I paid $475 anyway on a 1950s house in Cleveland. Two days later, the basement drain pipe split during a test the inspector ran. The seller had to knock $3,200 off the price to fix it. I wouldve been on the hook for that mess if I listened to the popular opinion. Has anyone else had a inspection catch something big right before closing?

Skip the inspection and you're gambling with your own cash. That $475 saved you way more than it cost, good call sticking with it.

Oh man @troyjackson you're totally right... I used to think skipping the inspection was a smart way to save a few bucks when buying a place. Figured what's the worst that could happen, right? Then I watched a buddy close on a house without one and found out the foundation was cracked all the way through three months later. That's a huge lesson learned the hard way. You hit it on the head though - that $475 is basically insurance against something way worse. Feels like everybody should hear this before they sign anything.
