Every house I looked at with my agent last month, the listing photos showed a completely different vibe than what I actually walked into (way more clutter and dark corners in person).

Why do people bother staging with those wide-angle lens shots that make a 900-square-foot living room look like a ballroom, and then you show up and the couch practically touches the TV stand?

Man, I used to totally defend real estate photos and say they were just showing the potential of a place, but after touring six houses last weekend I completely get it now. It's one thing to clean up clutter for a shoot but another thing entirely when the camera makes a hallway look like a whole extra room. I'd rather see a slightly messy photo of the actual space than feel like I'm walking into a bait and switch.

showing the potential" is exactly the problem though. You're paying for a home not a photoshoot. Wide lenses and bright filters hide reality. I'd rather see the cracked tile in the bathroom than some fake glamour shot of a toilet. Honest photos mean I don't waste my Saturday driving to a place that looks nothing like the listing. It saves everyone time.
