A retired appraiser told me my "curb appeal" was killing resale value. Changed everything.
He looked at my house and just laughed. Said my overgrown flower beds looked like a jungle. Not quaint. Not charming. Just messy. Told me buyers see that and think "what else did they neglect?" I pulled everything out. Put in simple boxwoods and gravel. Sold in 3 days vs the average 45 in my area. Has anyone else gotten brutal honesty from an old pro?

My uncle taught me the same trick with his ugly brown recliner.

...and I swear it stays with him to this day. My buddy Dave had this beat-up old recliner his grandpa gave him, mustard yellow with duct tape on the armrest. He'd do the same thing - wedged a magazine under one leg so it wouldn't rock back on the uneven floor. Dude brought that chair to three different apartments before his girlfriend finally made him toss it at a dumpster behind their complex.
