Took 4 months to figure out my boots were the wrong size

Bought a pair of hiking boots last fall, size 10.5 like always. First 2 months they killed my heels, thought it was break-in. Then my toes started going numb on a 6 mile trail near Asheville. Went to a cobbler for insoles, he measured me, I'm a 10.25 wide. Not even a standard size. He said my boots were too narrow, not too long. Swapped to 10.5 wide, night and day. How many of you actually got measured as an adult, not just guessing at the rack?

Did you actually get measured by a foot doctor or just some shoe guy?
