The $38 anodized pan that outlasted my cast iron at camp

Took my grandma's cast iron skillet on a two week trip in Olympic National Park last spring. It rusted on day three after one rainy dinner. Picked up a cheap anodized aluminum pan from a gas station in Forks as a backup, figured I'd trash it. That thing has now done 6 more trips, been dropped on rocks, scrubbed with sand, and it still looks almost new. My cast iron sits at home now. Has anyone else ditched the classic gear for something random that just works better?
