Rant: spent 4 months hunting a squeak in my old truck when it was an $11 part
My 2003 Silverado started squeaking every time I hit a bump and I replaced the shocks, the sway bar bushings, and even the cab mounts over 4 months of weekends, throwing maybe $600 at it. Turned out to be a dried out hood hinge bushing, and a guy at the parts counter in Reno sold me a pack of nylon ones for $11 and it took 15 minutes with a punch. Anybody else burn real money on a noise before finding the dumb little thing that was actually causing it?
Four months is brutal but that's just how the game goes with old parts. I waited five months for a rear quarter panel for my 89 Civic and by the time it showed up I'd already found two other ones at pick n pulls. Here's the move: call the guy every two weeks, not every day, and ask him for the part number so you can hunt it yourself in the meantime. Half these parts sit in some other yard and nobody bothers to check. If he saved you 589 bucks, that's real money, so treat the wait like the price you paid for it. Next time get the number up front and do the calling around yourself.
