My work boots finally hit 2,000 hours and I had to share the math
I log my boot hours for tax write-offs and last week my Red Wings crossed 2,000 hours of actual on-the-job wear. That works out to about 14 cents per hour if you count the resole I got done in Portland, which is ridiculous compared to the $90 pairs I used to burn through every 8 months. The leather is cracked in spots and the heel counter is soft, but they still pass the wet sidewalk test after 3 years of landscaping work. How do you guys track when a boot is truly done, or do you just go by feel and hope for the best? Has anyone else kept a hour log just to justify the upfront cost?
