Pro tip: That $50 boning knife set off Amazon was a complete waste
Bought a 4-piece set on Amazon for $50 back in February, and the first ham I broke down chipped the blade on the third cut, so has anyone else had luck with a budget brand that actually holds up?

Totally feel your pain, that's a bummer when a new tool fails right away... I've had pretty decent luck with the Victorinox Fibrox line, it's not fancy but it holds an edge and won't break the bank like those mystery metal sets. Definitely worth a look if you're tired of chipping blades on the first ham.

My buddy got a set of those fancy magnetic knives from some Instagram ad. First thing he tried to cut was a butternut squash, and the tip snapped right off. He said it made a sound like a twig breaking. Used a rusty old pairing knife to finish the job.

Gotta admit, I used to be one of those people who thought fancy looking knives had to be better. I'd see those magnetic sets on Instagram with the cool colors and think "man, that's the upgrade I need." But hearing about your buddy's butternut squash disaster totally changed my mind. I've got a cheap old knife from a grocery store set that I've been using for years and it's still going strong. It's not pretty but it cuts through squash like butter. Makes me realize Instagram ads are great at selling a look, not so much at selling something that actually works.
