Had to pick between a new band saw blade and a new boning knife for the shop budget
The old blade was skipping on frozen product and my main knife had a chip in it. I went with the knife because I figured I could work around the blade for a bit. Big mistake, the blade snapped halfway through breaking down a side of beef yesterday and I lost an hour of work. What do you guys do when you have to choose between two needed tools?

My buddy tried to cheap out on a drill bit once and it snapped in a stud.

One snapped bit and now it's a cautionary tale for life. I bet his drill was on hammer mode or something, that'll do it every time.

Honestly, sometimes the cheap bit is fine. Not every job needs a titanium coated bit. If you're just putting up a shelf or something basic, the bargain bin one gets it done. People act like you need pro gear for every single hole. His buddy probably just hit a nail or twisted it wrong. That can snap any bit.
