Why does nobody talk about the $30 "premium" USB-C cable that fried my $800 laptop in 2 weeks?
So last month I grabbed a braided USB-C cable from a big box store in Austin for $30 because the packaging said 100W and 10Gbps. Two weeks in, it started getting super hot during charges and then one morning it straight up killed the USB-C port on my $800 laptop. Now I'm stuck deciding if I should fight the store for a refund or just eat the loss and warn people. On one side, you could say I should have checked for USB-IF cert and known better. On the other side, why is it so easy to sell dangerous cables with fake specs? I'm out $30 for the cable plus maybe $200 for a repair, and I still don't know if it's worth the hassle. Has anyone actually gotten a store to pay for damage from a bad cable, or do we all just buy the $9 Anker and move on?
